What Are Bookworm Reading Groups?

Bookworm Reading Groups provide engaging, interactive instruction to build reading comprehension for students in grades 1 through 6. Each reading group, which is designed to be completed in one or two weeks (depending on level), guides students through the book they pre-select from the ever expanding Bookworm library, and provides opportunities to practice specific reading comprehension strategies. Students will watch videos, listen to read alouds, read independently,  and complete short assignments to measure their progress. Students receive personalized feedback on each assignment to keep them motivated and accountable, and caregivers receive a wrap-up report at the conclusion of the session.

Specific reading comprehension skills that are covered include:

  • Monitoring comprehension

  • Activating background knowledge

  • Connections

  • Questioning

  • Retelling

  • Drawing inferences

  • Visualizing
